Aadhaar in the Seven Kingdoms

This is what Jon thinks
Aadhaar number: 4480-XXXX-7705
Name: Jon Snow
Father’s/Guardian’s name: Ned Stark
Address: Castle Black
Mobile number: 8800-XXX-266

This, however, is his true identity (SPOILER ALERT !!)
Aadhaar number: 4480-XXXX-7705
Name: Jon Targaryen
Father’s/Guardian’s name: Rhaegar Targaryen
Address: Winterfell
Mobile number: 8800-XXX-266

Ygritte was right. Jon Snow knows nothing. However, eventually when he does, he’ll probably need to change his address from Winterfell to Kings Landing. We recommend that he goes and updates the info at the nearest Aadhaar permanent enrollment and update center. There is one near Red Keep. Since he has a registered mobile number, he can even do it online after uploading supporting documents. There may be connectivity issues though, considering that the great Sept of Baelor just blew up!

Names and addresses in the seven kingdoms, much like in India, are funny. They change. In India, more than the change, they are simply different. In Aadhaar, in Voter ID, in PAN card, in ration card, in bank accounts, in driving licence. Especially for workers/professionals from the unorganized sector. Sometimes these are innocent honest mistakes – perhaps a typo by data entry operators. However, there are cases where the anomalies are intentional, with a clear fraudulent intent. And by the time Ned comes to know that Joffrey Barantheon is actually Joffrey Lannister, it is too late.

The demographic data variations cause havoc as far as trust establishment and service delivery goes. Most professionals in the unorganized sector seems to be practically anonymous.  An identity indicated by just ‘Rajesh’, or ‘Gendry’ means nothing. While 99% men (including Andals) are honest, it’s the 1% people with fraudulent intent who know, and will beat all the traditional background checks and verifications by simply faking and duplicating names, addresses and documents. And for organizations who end up hiring and engaging that 1%, the night is going to be dark and full of terrors.

However, chaos isn’t a pit, but a ladder. It’s best if a man has no name, and we just use the 12-digit unique Aadhaar that does not change and remains with an individual for life (and even after he/she join the army of the dead). This way, the foundation for engaging with unorganized sector professionals can be much stronger and safer. Since the biometrics are linked to the number, establishing true identity, and ensuring trust and accountability is now simpler, faster and cheaper. Now the north remembers. And so does OnGrid.

It’s time you create the OnGrid foundation for background verifications and checks for your business, while there’s still time. Remember, winter is coming.

FAQs

Q1. Why do different documents like Aadhaar, PAN, and Voter ID have inconsistent information?

Variations often occur due to data entry errors or differing formats. In some cases, fraudulent intent is also a reason for mismatched details.

Q2How can Aadhaar help in verifying true identity, especially for unorganized sector workers?

Aadhaar offers a unique, lifelong identity number linked with biometric data, making it a strong foundation for authentic identity verification.

Q3. Can Aadhaar be used to prevent identity fraud during hiring?

Yes, since Aadhaar is biometric-linked, it ensures the person being verified is genuine, reducing the risk of fake identities.
